SUMMARY
A fully accredited health program, University Health Services at Princeton University provides responsive, high quality clinical, preventive, and consultative health services to over 8,000 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students and their dependents, and occupational health services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees. An integrated, evidence-informed model guides all UHS practices and services. UHS leverages clinical encounters and prevention efforts into meaningful opportunities for University community members to learn about and adopt healthy living practices. UHS also supports a public health approach that prevents or responds rapidly to illness outbreaks and injury, and advances, preserves, or restores students’ capacity to take full advantage of their education.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Princeton University seeks an innovative, collaborative, and dynamic leader to serve as Director of Occupational Health at Princeton’s University Health Services (UHS) at a uniquely opportune moment. The new Director will lead and shape the service line in response to ongoing changes in the field of occupational health and in healthcare more broadly, and will ensure the safe conduct of novel and innovative research initiatives in Princeton’s laboratories. The foundational mission of the unit is to ensure that Princeton employees receive high-quality occupational health care and client services in keeping with the mission and values of University Health Services (UHS) and the University. The next Director will represent UHS in campus collaborations dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy workforce on Princeton University’s campus. The University is investing in a new electronic medical record to enhance cross-departmental collaboration; has retained the services of external consultants to recommend best practices; and is seeking new personnel to support the mission of Occupational Health.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Director of UHS’s Medical Services, the Director of Occupational Health will be responsible for the overall clinical and administrative management of the department. Current areas of responsibility include occupational health acute care, workers compensation, short term disability case management, immunization services and travel planning, as well as medical surveillance for OSHA mandated programs and outreach to campus partners regarding health as it relates to the approximately 7,136 staff, faculty, and students employed by the University. The ideal candidate will be attracted to the opportunity to collaborate with campus partners in the process of designing a sustainable model for Occupational Health services at Princeton. The candidate will be a student of organizational culture, committed to listening and learning from others as they lead the service-line through change. We seek an exceptional communicator and team-builder who will be strategic in navigating the institutional environment. The new Director will have significant administrative and managerial experience and will inspire the confidence and respect of partners in academic, clinical and administrative domains across campus. The Director will employ an approach of continuous improvement, whereby all systems and processes are constantly evaluated for the potential for quality improvement. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4-5 years of progressive management experience and training as a physician or nurse practitioner; licensure or eligibility to practice as an MD/DO or NP in New Jersey; and certification as a COHN-S or related occupational health professional certification
