SUMMARY
Founded in 1810, The Lawrenceville School is located in central New Jersey, close to the capital of Trenton and the university town of Princeton; 55 miles south of New York City; and 40 miles north of Philadelphia. Regarded as one of the country’s premier independent schools, Lawrenceville attracts outstanding students in grades 9-12, as well as postgraduate students. The School’s 815 students hail from 33 states and 45 countries, with 70 percent boarding and 30 percent day students. Thirty-two percent of students receive $13.9 million in financial aid grants, and 53 percent are students of color. Lawrenceville has 375 full-time employees, including 109 full-time teaching faculty.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Lawrenceville School seeks an exceptional physician leader to serve as Medical Director and join a leadership team dedicated to creating an environment where students, faculty, and staff thrive. Lawrenceville is a highly selective residential school for students in grades 9-12 and postgraduate students. Lawrenceville’s endowment, which exceeds $610 million, enables the School to sustain its commitments to diversity, sustainability, and social and environmental justice—values which guide academic and campus programming. The new Medical Director will play a leading role in shaping Lawrenceville’s approach to the overall health and wellbeing of the student community.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Office of the Head of School, the Medical Director is a faculty position and a member of Senior Staff. The Medical Director works collaboratively with the Dean of Students, Senior Staff, and faculty, particularly Heads of House and academic and administrative offices. These offices include Human Resources, Athletics, Educational Support, Facilities, and Scholarship Aid. In addition, the Medical Director maintains a relationship with local health officials and serves as a key consultant for any policies and protocols pertaining to overall school community health through the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergent threats. The Medical Director oversees all clinical and administrative functions of the Al Rashid Health and Wellness Center which is open 24/7 during the academic year and during overnight summer camps. The Al Rashid Health and Wellness Center is currently staffed by 37 employees/14 of whom are full time. The staff includes 19 nurses, 2 nurse practitioners, 4 psychologists, 3 athletic trainers, an x-ray technician, and 2 care coordinators. Direct reports to the Medical Director include the Director of Nursing, Counseling, and Head Athletic Trainer. The Medical Director will work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and will ensure that appropriate coverage is available during all shifts.
