SUMMARY

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Radiation Oncology and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) seek a physician leader to serve in the newly created position of Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs. The Vice Chair will report to and work in close partnership with the Chair of Radiation Oncology, Ramesh Rengan, MD PhD. The Vice Chair will team with Dr. Rengan in leading the Department’s clinical operations within a new enterprise, recently formed by the coalescing of UW Medicine and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) clinical cancer programs. This new enterprise offers a rare opportunity for a Radiation Oncology leader to help conceive and shape an elite academic medicine department and transform cancer care for UW’s patient community.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The creation of this position reflects the strong commitment of the Chair, the University, and the leadership of the newly integrated FHCC to supporting excellence in clinical care and operations, science, patient safety, and the patient experience while enhancing both faculty and patient satisfaction. This position is critical to the growth of the Radiation Oncology enterprise and for the successful transition to the new FHCC model for cancer program integration at UW Medicine.

THE POSITION

The new Vice Chair will report to and be a close advisor to the Chair of UW’s Radiation Oncology Department, one of the largest Radiation Oncology academic departments in the U.S. The new Vice Chair will be the key architect of the integrated and coordinated operations called for by the creation and branding of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.  As such, the Vice Chair will enjoy an extraordinary mandate to further develop the Department’s historically well-respected clinical services into an expert, integrated, consistent, safe, and high-quality disease-based Radiation Oncology clinical care program of national repute.
