SUMMARY

Summary Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) is seeking an expert with significant leadership experience to serve as Vice President, Patient Safety and Quality. This is an influential role serving as a key organizational leader to advance the priorities of safety, quality and regulatory compliance at one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the country. The Vice President, Program for Patient Safety and Quality (VP PPSQ) support the institution in providing patient and family-focused care and developing a culture that strives to achieve zero preventable harm, maximal learning, and continuous improvement. See www.childrenshospital.org.   Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Chief Safety and Quality Officer, and in collaboration with other members of the senior leadership team, the VP PPSQ will provide strategic guidance and operational leadership of safety and quality programs and will help shape the aspirational initiatives that allow Boston Children’s Hospital to continue to be a national leader in pediatric quality and safety.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The role of VP PPSQ represents a unique opportunity to join the leadership team of Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH).  The successful candidate will play a critical role in leading and shaping patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical regulatory readiness programs at an institution with demonstrated commitment to national leadership in quality and safety as part of its mission to provide world-class, family-centered care for every patient.   Over the past four years, BCH has undertaken a major initiative (“Every Moment Matters”) to train all 15,000 clinicians and staff in principles and strategies needed to become a high reliability organization. This training is a key element of an enterprise-wide commitment to focus on error prevention and the continuing creation of a culture of safety. BCH has also implemented state-of-the-art systems and processes to measure and improve quality, respond to safety events when they occur, and implement system changes that prevent future harm. The successful candidate will be able to build on this robust infrastructure and culture to achieve the goals of eliminating all treatment-related harm and providing optimal treatment for the infants, children, and young adults under our care.   The opportunity for collaboration with superb operational leaders in nursing and other patient care services departments, leaders in information technology, and nationally regarded clinical leaders in every field and discipline is unequaled in pediatrics. The right candidate will be recognized as a highly collaborative individual with expertise in principles and processes to promote and improve quality and safety, and leading teams in a complex organization with energy and vision. The VP PPSQ will represent BCH to external safety, quality, and regulatory bodies, and nurture links to pediatric colleagues, taking on appropriate roles in national collaborative work, through organizations such as the Children’s Hospital Association.
