Doing Good – Giving Used Medical Equipment Another Life
Medical Bridges is a not-for-profit started by two doctors from Houston who were struck by the medical needs in third world countries contrasted with the waste of medical equipment and supplies in the U.S. From that beginning, Medical Bridges now has 22 years of experience shipping over $100 million of donated supplies and equipment to 86 countries. Supplies include valuable instruments and everyday material. Equipment includes ultrasound, baby warmers and incubators, scopes of all kinds, dialysis machines, exam tables, operating room equipment, dental suites, furniture and almost anything that a hospital might have. Our speakers, Walter Ulrich and Gidget Swift, describe how a small operation is able to have such a big impact and what is needed to succeed and grow.
Walter Ulrich is President & CEO of Medical Bridges. His experience includes running Arthur D. Little’s Healthcare and Hospital practice in the late 90’s, subsequently serving on the Texas Emerging Technology Fund Committee, and leading the Houston Technology Center for 10 years, helping to create 6,000 new jobs related to breakthrough life science, energy and IT companies.
Gidget Swift is Global Health and Special Projects Manager at Medical Bridges. Her experience includes 21 years in Health and Safety Services at the American Red Cross. In addition, Ms. Swift has 30 years’ experience as a CPR/First Aid/AED instructor and instructor-trainer.
