Food Insecurity and Healthcare – What We Need To Do
Based on the recognition that food insecurity is associated with poor health across the life course, many US health systems are actively exploring ways to help patients access food resources. Our speaker, Dr. Emilia De Marchis, discusses her research on interventions to address food insecurity in US health care settings. She will review what outcomes are being explored, what we can learn from them, and remaining research gaps.
Emilia De Marchis, MD, MAS, is a family physician and health services researcher at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her research is based out of the UCSF Social Intervention Research & Evaluation Network (SIREN), where she works to assess and improve how we screen for and address social risk factors within health care settings, to reduce health disparities. Through her research and clinical practice, she hopes to advance the health care system’s integration of patient social risk data to provide high quality, patient-centered preventative health care.
