Mental Health Screening for Refugees
Refugees resettling to the United States are at increased risk for mental health disorders, which can lead to difficulty with adaptation and poor health outcomes. Standardized mental health screening of refugees is often neglected at primary care and community health clinics. This Webinar describes an innovative early mental health screening program for newly resettled adult refugees.
Our speaker, Kelly Polcher, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Family Healthcare, a community health center, in Fargo, ND since 2012. In 2014, she implemented a mental health screening process at Family Healthcare for newly arrived adult refugees in Fargo-Moorhead. The results of the pilot program were published in the Journal of Primary Care and Community Health in 2016.
