Seeing Healthcare Affordability Through the Patient Engagement Lens
Can we improve healthcare affordability by enhancing patient engagement and by better understanding consumer perspectives? By looking at affordability through a patient engagement lens, Massachusetts Health Care Quality Partners (MHQP) hopes to support provider organizations, health plans and policy makers improve the quality of patient care experiences throughout the state as patients navigate the healthcare system. This session with Barbra Rabson, MHQP’s President and CEO, describes the lessons learned and plans for action resulting from working with a coalition of stakeholder groups to address this issue.
Barbra Rabson is the President and CEO of the Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP). Under Barbra’s leadership since 1998, MHQP has become one of the most trusted names in performance measurement and public reporting of health care information in Massachusetts and in the nation. She has led MHQP to conduct three first in the nation statewide hospital and physician performance measurement initiatives.
Barbra is a founding member and past Board Chair of the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement (NRHI), a national network of regional health improvement collaboratives. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Quality Measure Alignment Task Force and Quality Subcommittee and a member of the Massachusetts Employer Health Coalition steering committee. Barbra received her MPH from Yale University and her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University.
About MHQP: Since 1995, MHQP has been leveraging its unique position as an independent coalition of key stakeholder groups (providers, payers and patients) in Massachusetts healthcare to help provider organizations, health plans and policy makers improve the quality of patient care experiences throughout the state. MHQP’s work is driven by and organized around the principle that the challenges facing healthcare can only be solved through collaboration and innovation across key stakeholder groups – including patients, perhaps the most underutilized resources in the healthcare system. MHQP is the organizing body that brings these organizations and individuals together to find shared interests and solve problems that none can solve alone.
